COLUMBIA (WACH / AP) – Honorably discharged veterans can soon have a driver’s license that identifies them as a hero.
On Friday, Governor Nikki Haley and DMV Director Kevin Shwedo, a retired Army colonel, held a news conference announcing the availability of the new license.
The announcement comes nearly 5 months after legislators passed a law, joining at least 8 other states, in allowing the DMV to include a "V" or the word "veteran" on driver's licenses,
The original bill was sponsored by Sen. Jake Knotts of Lexington, citing his desire to recognize veterans for their service.
