UPDATE: Suspect in police involved shooting identified
NEWBERRY S.C. (WACH)—A shooting in Newberry late Wednesday night has left a suspect dead and a Newberry officer injured.
According to a press release issued by the Newberry Police Department, just before midnight, two Newberry officers responded to a domestic disturbance at 2405 Fulmer Street. As officers approached the house, someone inside drew and fired a weapon through the door, resulting in an officer being hit in the arm by a “projectile.”
Several agencies responded to assist in the incident, including the Newberry Sheriff’s Department, Highway Patrol, and SLED. The house was surrounded, and officers attempted to contact the person who fired the shot to come out.
After several hours without a response, a SLED robot entered the house, and found the resident dead from what is being called a “self inflicted gunshot wound.”
As with any officer involved shooting, SLED is investigating the incident.
The unidentified officer was treated at the scene and he was then transported to a Midlands hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.
UPDATE: The suspect in Wednesday night's shooting incident has been identifed by the Newberry County Coroner's Office as thirty-year-old William Blair Frazier. Craig Newton, of the Coroner's office, also reported that Frazier died of a self inflicted gunshot wound.
