NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WACH / AP) -- An innovative South Carolina-based after-school program that helps teach students to control their tempers and make good choices is getting ready for the national stage.
The program, WINGS for Kids, was started in Charleston 16 years ago by Ginny Deerin, expands on Tuesday expands to two schools in Fulton County, Ga.
WINGS for Kids, according to Deerin, is a one of a kind program that teaches needed emotional skills to children in a 15-hour hour a week after-school setting.
The expansion to Fulton was made possible from a $1 million donation from a board member, and ongoing fund raising efforts continue to expand in Charlotte, Baltimore or Jacksonville, Fla.
