MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) -- Two men remain in jail on charges they killed two St. Stephen women last week and left their burned car in the Francis Marion National Forest.

Twenty-three-year-old Caleb Brad Matlock of Summerville and 23-year-old Arthur Ray Chavis of Cordesville are charged with murder.

The men made a first appearance in court Sunday but a magistrate cannot set bond on a murder charges.

The body of 18-year-old Dana Woods was found August 28 near the hulk of her burned-out car. The body of her friend, 22-year-old June Guerry, was found several days later about 10 miles away.

Woods' mother, Jennifer Hill, says she doesn't know why her daughter and her friend were killed.

Berkeley County sheriff's deputies have not disclosed a motive, but said the suspects knew the women.
