Columbia (WACH)--The great weather Saturday gave many people a reason to go to the river, while also learning about the importance of clean water.

The city of Columbia, Lexington County, and Richland County hosted the Third Annual Summer Celebration of Water Festival at Riverfront Park. The free event gave visitors a chance to try kayaking, tubing, canoeing and paddle boarding; along with food. The event also had several rides for children as well.

Columbia Storm Water Environment Specialist Karen Swank Kustafik said they also learned why it is crucial to keep the water clean.

If we take better care of the water that is flowing in to our surface water, it is less expensive for us to treat it and get it back into the tap for you. We brand ourselves on the three rivers. In order to attract people and keep people coming, we want to make sure the water is clean as it can possibly be."
