The South Carolina National Safety Council announced a fun event for teenagers; hoping they will become safer drivers.
The first ever Celebrate My Drive Extravaganza will be held September 15 at Blythewood High School from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The event will feature food and fun activities for all ages, along with a DUI and Rollover Simulator for teens.
According to the council, highway fatalities are the leading cause of death for young adults between the ages of 15 and 24 in the state.
South Carolina NSC Executive Director and CEO Brooke Russell said she hopes the event, along with parental involvement, help reverse that trend.
"Talk to your kids. Talk to the young adults when they are getting ready to go off to school or go to work. Talk to them about the responsibilities that they have when they get behind the wheel of a vehicle. Not texting, wearing their seatbelts, making good decisions, not drinking and driving."
