COLUMBIA (WACH) - A fire swept through a Columbia apartment complex building Thursday morning.
The Columbia-Richland Fire Department received a call about a fire at the Hampton Greene Apartment Complex around 10 a.m. Thursday.
Authorities say building 5 at the complex was engulfed in flames when they arrived. There is approximately $250,000 in damage. Building 6 also had minor damage.
There are no reported injuries other than one firefighter who sustained an injury that was not related to the fire.
One cat was rescued. Emergency personnel worked to revive the cat, who appeared to be doing well at the scene. No other pets were found in the building.
Officials say two people of the people at the scene had just moved in to the complex.
According to Brick Lewis of the Columbia-Richland Fire Department, 19 people have been displaced, but the Red Cross and the owners of the Apartment complex are working to find them a place to stay.
The fire department says the cause of the fire was accidental.
The incident remains under investigation.
