GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- A man has died after a standoff with sheriff's deputies in Greenville County.
Officials say deputies were called to a Greenville home at around 7 a.m. Monday after a report that a man inside was threatening to shoot himself.
Authorities say 50-year-old Patrick Starks briefly came out and spoke with deputies before going back inside the home and talking with officials through a window.
Three deputies went inside to bring a woman out, but authorities say Starks turned from the window and pointed a gun at the officers.
Deputies shot at Starks, hitting him twice. He later died at a hospital from a gunshot to the chest.
The deputy involved is on leave while the shooting is investigated.
