COLUMBIA (WACH) - A house that caught fire early last year was demolished Thursday afternoon.
The property, located on Ridgewood Avenue, was demolished at 2 p.m. Thursday by The City of Columbia Planning and Development Services department.
Officials say a fire on Feb. 27, 2011, caused $70,000 in damage to the home. The City made several attempts to get the homeowner to either tear down the structure or make the necessary repairs since March 2011, but nothing has been done to fix the condition of the home.
There have been 35 demolitions since July 2011 through Code Enforcement, accoring to authorities.
The City of Columbia says there are at least another 28 houses at various stages of the demolition process in the city. The demolition process can be as short as 7 months to as long as several years.
