LAURENS COUNTY, SC (WACH) - Gov. Nikki Haley lashed out against media in the Upstate Friday after facing questions about her children.
Haley's 14-year-old daughter is working in the State House gift shop.
When asked by a WYFF television reporter if she had "pulled any strings to get her daughter a government job," Haley snapped back with a quick response.
"The media is not allowed to talk to me about my children," said Haley, "No, I did not pull strings, but I am not going to talk about my children to the media."
Before the interview, Haley addressed a room of people, including the media.
During Haley's speech, she talked about her daughter.
The reporter asked Haley to explain the difference between talking about her children in her speech and discussing them during the interview.
"I get to decide what I put out there about my children. Y'all don't get to decide whether you're interfering with the security of my children and whether you're saying something about my children. The media has gone too far. You can attack me, you can talk about me all you want, but you have to leave my children alone," said Haley.
This issue has been point of contention for about a week. The South Carolina Department of Parks Recreation and Tourism runs the State House gift shop, and Haley appoints the agencies director.
