Trooper hurt in I-26 crash released from hospital

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) -- A South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper hurt when he was struck by a vehicle on I-26 has been released from the hospital.

Trooper First Class Howard James was investigating a crash July 20th when a vehicle swerved off the road and hit James' cruiser which then hit him.

The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office says the investigation continues. The name of the driver of the other vehicle has not been released.

James is the second trooper injured this month. Another was hurt in Sumter County on July 12 when his cruiser crashed while on the way to help sheriff's deputies deal with a domestic disturbance.
