ORANGEBURG COUNTY (WACH) -- The congregation of Salem Baptist Church in the Orangeburg County town of North is on edge because someone has been writing offensive messages with the church's sign.

Over the weekend, someone changed the letters on the sign outside the church to spell out a racial slur.

The church has taken the message down. Pastor Randy Lucas says he doesn’t understand why someone would do this.

“A lot of emotions. Anger, disappointment that someone would do that,” said Pastor Lucas outside the church Sunday evening. “This is God’s property. We were hurt. It’s sad.”

Only days before, someone changed the letters to spell out an expletive.

Pastor Lucas says he is working with police to try and figure out who’s responsible.
