COLUMBIA S.C. (WACH)—The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is inviting citizens for an evening run on Saturday, July 28, as they host the second Guardians of the Night K-9 5K.  The USATF sanctioned run will begin at the Plex on Fashion Drive at 9:00 pm, and end at the fountain in the heart of the Village at Sandhill.

According to Lt. Kevin Hoover, this years run is dedicated to the memory of K-9 Deputy Fargo, who was killed while apprehending a suspect on December 16, 2011.

The entry fee for the event is $25 before July 21, and $30 after, and includes a t-shirt.  The run will benefit the Richland County Sheriff’s Foundation and the Richland County K-9 Unit.

Prizes include cash, and awards for top male and female finishers in each age group.

You can find more information at the sheriff’s department WEBSITE.
