LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WACH) - A shooting that left one man dead and a woman wounded  early Monday morning is under investigation by the Lexington County Sheriff's Department.

Detectives are working to identify the person or persons who shot and killed a 33-year-old West Columbia man and shot a 24-year-old Cheraw woman around 2 a.m. Monday, according to Sheriff James R. Metts. The man and woman were sitting in a car that was parked at an apartment complex on Riverbend Drive near West Columbia.

Metts says Deputies responded to a call about the shooting and found the body of Terance Terell Jackson, 33, of West Columbia in the front seat of a red, two-door Buick sedan. Jackson had been shot multiple times.

Lexington County Coroner Harry O. Harman said preliminary results of an autopsy performed Monday show that Jackson died as a result gunshot wounds to his upper torso. Bullets lacerated Jackson's aorta and lungs.

Harman says a forensic pathologist determined Jackson died within minutes after being shot.

Deputies later found the 24-year-old woman, who was shot and wounded, at an apartment in the Riverbend Drive apartment complex, Metts said. She was shot in the lower torso and was undergoing medical treatment Monday afternoon in the intensive care unit at a hospital.

Authorities say the woman met Jackson about one week ago. She had gone with him to a bar prior to the shooting incident.

The circumstances of and the motive for the shooting remain under investigation by the sheriff's department.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Lexington County Sheriff's Department at 803-785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-Crime-SC.
