EASLEY, S.C. (WACH / AP) – A Pickens County coroner plans an autopsy for Monday to determine whether intense heat played a role in the death of an 84-year-old nursing home resident.

A female resident of Majesty Health & Rehab of Easley collapsed Saturday at the nursing home and died at the local hospital. Her name has not been released. Coroner Kandy Kelley says she hopes to have results on a cause of death by Monday afternoon.

Kelley said the air conditioning in one of the three wings of the residence was not working properly over the weekend.

A nursing home spokesman says the air conditioners were working, but struggled to cool the building from the 105 degree temperatures.
