COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities have identified a man riding in a motorized wheelchair who was struck and killed by a dump truck in Columbia.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says 67-year-old George Jackson of Columbia was hit Monday morning as he tried to ride across the street in the city's Five Points restaurant and bar district near downtown.

Watts says Jackson was pronounced dead at a hospital at around 10:45 a.m. Monday.

Police are still investigating the crash. Officers say they have been interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance video from the area to try and figure out why the turning dump truck did not stop.
