JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- A top official from the U.S. Department of Defense is traveling to South Carolina to talk about warfare systems and to thank troops their service.

Deputy Secretary of Defense Ash Carter is visiting Joint Base Charleston on Monday. Organizers say Carter is getting briefings on space and naval warfare systems and Army logistics.

He's scheduled to speak during an event that also features U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham.

All Joint Base personnel and their families are invited to attend the event.
