The South Carolina Highway Patrol says one person died in a wreck as the remnants of Tropical Storm Beryl moved across the state.
ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) -- The South Carolina Highway Patrol says one person died in a wreck as the remnants of Tropical Storm Beryl moved across the state.
The patrol says 51-year-old Donald Hickson of Orangeburg died when a tree fell on his sports utility vehicle as he drove on state Highway 400 around 2 a.m. Wednesday in Orangeburg County.
Deputy Coroner Sean Fogle says Hickson died of massive trauma.
The storm dumped more than 5 inches of rain in parts of the state. The Cameron area in Calhoun County recorded nearly 6.5 inches of rain.
