COLUMBIA (WACH) - The Five Points Association is holding a new kind of "mob" Wednesday to support local businesses during Small Business Week.

The first Cash Mob in Five Points will be held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Wednesday at Papa Jazz Record Shoppe.

People are encouraged to "mob" the local music store during the two hour period and spend at least $5.

Tim Smith, owner of Papa Jazz, says the store has a great variety of merchandise for people to choose from.

"We sell records, CDs, and DVDs. We have about 30,000 records. We have new releases and used stuff. Regular items and hard to find stuff. We do special orders that are usually next day orders. We probably have around 10,000 records between $1 and $5," said Smith.

After making a purchase, participants can walk down to CJ's  to have a drink and celebrate their involvement with others.

According to the association, the intention of a Cash Mob is to boost one locally owned location's sales and introduce new customers to the business.

"We have the resources, the connections and the ability," said Merritt McHaffie, Executive Director of the Five Points Association. "Why wouldn't we do this?"

Papa Jazz has been in business in Columbia for 33 years.

"Hopefully it will be a very big turn out. It's been getting a lot of attention, so we'll be ready," said Smith.
