COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A state representative is asking a legislative panel to reconsider its decision dropping ethics charges against South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.

Rep. James Smith's office said Tuesday he has filed a resolution asking the Ethics Committee to reopen its probe.

Earlier this month, the committee voted to dismiss allegations into whether Haley violated ethics rules while representing Lexington County in the House before being elected governor in 2010. Members voted that there was good reason to look into the charges, then quickly voted to dismiss them anyway.

A Republican activist who brought the original complaint wants the full House to reconsider the case, but that chamber has taken no official action.

A Haley spokesman dismissed the Columbia Democrat's resolution and said Haley has been exonerated at all levels.
