COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) -- Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Columbia and local Dressbarns teamed up to help make Mother's Day special for Midlands moms.
It was part of the To Mom, with Love Program which brought hundreds of kids into local Dressbarns across the country and gave them the opportunity to shop for their mom's using 50 dollar gift cards.
"We are excited to work with Dressbarn on this inaugural To Mom, with Love Program to benefit area families. Many of our kids don't have the resources to buy their mother a gift for the holiday, so this will be such a great day for them, their moms, and our volunteers," said President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Columbia.
Tierra Hillman and her big sister, Lashawda Gilcrest came out to shop for Tierra's mother.
"I want to show my mom that she's important to me and that she really means something to me even though we don't show it everyday, this is one day where she can see that she's really important to us," said Tillman.
Tierra and I have been paired for the past two and a half years, and it has been a joy. I don't have any kids myself so its been an opportunity for me to learn and grow and see what parenthood is all about," said Tierra's big sister.
Last year Dressbarn tried the To Mom, with Love program in 4 of their stores and now stores nationwide are participating, helping more than 100 kids shop for their moms on Mother's Day.
