Bomb squad secures potentially explosive device found in Blythewood neighborhood

A bomb squad secured a potentially explosive device resembling a grenade that was found in a Blythewood neighborhood Friday evening, according to the Richland County Sheriff's Department.

BLYTHEWOOD (WACH) - A bomb squad secured a potentially explosive device resembling a grenade that was found in a Blythewood neighborhood Friday evening, according to the Richland County Sheriff's Department.

Deputy Curtis Wilson says the object was discovered around 5:45 Friday in the Brookhaven neighborhood near Coralbean Way and Wilkerson Lane.  Sanitary workers were emptying trash cans in the neighborhood when the object fell out of the garbage.

Some residents in the neighborhood were evacutated as a precaution.

Investigators are not certain if the grenade-like device is live.
