CAYCE, SC -- The Midlands got a special visit from a distinguished official on Monday.

Yang Zigang, a Minister with the Chinese Embassy in Washington D.C. was in Cayce visiting the East Point Academy. East Point is South Carolina's first Chinese language charter school. The school teaches mandarin to young children.

The minister was treated to a program of songs and dances in mandarin by the students. He also toured the facility.

Yang said the children are getting a head start because America and China's relationship will only become stronger.

"Nowadays, China and the U.S. are two very important countries. The most important thing is that young kids know Chinese. I think the young kids will have a bright future."

Yang also visited USC. He also plans to make a stop in Tennessee.
