CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV, AP) -- The father of a 2-month-old South Carolina infant who was dismembered and killed by the family dog has been charged with illegal neglect of a child.

Twenty-eight-year-old Quintin McGrew of Dorchester County was charged Wednesday.

McGrew's two-month-old son Aiden was mauled by the dog April 20 while his father slept in a nearby room with another child. The dog attacked the baby while he was in an infant swing.

Coroner Chris Nesbit later ruled that parental neglect led to the death. He ruled the death a homicide and said the child died of loss of blood as a result of the attack.

A conviction on the charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.

According to ABC News 4 Charleston, McGrew turned himself in to authorities Wednesday. Meanwhile, a fund has been set up to help with funeral expenses. The account is named "Aiden McGrew Benefit Fund" and donations can be made at any First Federal Credit Union branch.
