COLUMBIA (WACH) - Audition season is in full swing in the Midlands. Several productions are looking for talented singers, actors, artists, and production crews.
Merideth Wilson's classic musical "The Music Man" is seeking singers, dancers, actors and musicians. This production will be directed and choreographed by Shannon Willis Scruggs with music direction by Andy Wells. They will be casting all roles this weekend from Harold Hill to Marion the librarian, and everyone in between.
All ages are encouraged to try out Saturday at 10 a.m. Wee thespians, ages 5 to 13, do not need to prepare as they will be learning a song that morning. Teens and adults are invited to audition Sunday and Monday at 7 p.m., and are asked to bring a headshot. Dress comfortably because there will be movement. The show will run Sept. 16 through Oct. 6. If soprano is more your style, consider auditioning for the Opera at the University of South Carolina. They're looking to fill all principal and ensemble roles. The 2012 - 2013 season will begin this fall and include Don Giovanni, Das Barbecu: A musical Comedy, The Tender Land, and Bambino, a baseball opera in one act. If you are interested, the auditions will be held Monday at USC School of Music located next to the Koger Center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Contact Ellen Schlaefer at 803.777.0058 to register.
Next, we have "Death by Disco," a murder myster dinner show. If you like plenty of audience participation and interaction, this show is the one for you! There will be two audition times, the first is Sunday at 3 p.m. and the second will be Monday at 7 p.m. Auditions will be held at the Richland Mall on Forest Drive and Beltline. This will be a cold script read, so no preparation is necessary. Personally, I always thought Colonel Mustard did it... but that's just me. Call 803.202.2012 for details.
Finally, "Unearth" is accepting applications for artists who would like to participate in the Saluda event later this fall. Submissions can include, but are not limited to art demonstrations, musical and dance performances, peorty readings, as well as theatrical vignettes ... and who doesn't love a vignette? The celebration of naturally inspired art will take place at Saluda Shoals Park Oct. 5 - 7, and is sponsored by the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission. Click here to for submission information.
