LEXINGTON, S.C. (WACH) - A free social media workshop for parents and teens will be conducted by the Lexington County Sheriff's Department Wednesay night.
Sheriff James R. Metts and Social Media Coordinator Erik Murrah will lead the workshop to educate parents and teenagers on the dangers and advantages of social media.
The event will take place at the James R. Metts Law Enforcement Complex at 521 Gibson Road in Lexington from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Questions about the event should be directed to Murrah.
"Murrah will teach citizens about the common pitfalls in social media usage," said Metts. "Murrah will also teach citizens tips for responsible privacy controls so as not to expose oneself to unnecessary risk to online predators. Finally, Murrah will demonstrate how law enforcement is using social media with an increasing frequency to sove criminal cases and locate missing persons."
According to department spokesman Major John Allard, the workshop will provide useful information for teens using social media and their parents.
"Anyone who is aged 13 years or older is welcome to attend," said Metts.
Anyone interested in attending the free workshop is encouraged to meet at the law enforcement complex around 7 p.m.
