COLUMBIA, SC -- Columbia got even more beautiful Monday morning.
City leaders along with officials from the Scott's Miracle-Gro company dedicated a new green space area as part of the Interstate 126-Greystone Boulevard Interchange Beautification project.
The money comes from a $25,000 grant from Scott's GRO1000 campaign, which aims to develop 1,000 new gardens and green spaces in the United States, Canada, and Europe by 2018.
The green space also enhances the entranceway to the Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. Scott's Miracle-Gro Southeast Regional President Chris Allen said that is the top tourist attraction in Columbia.
"Some of the things Mayor (Steve) Benjamin and the city leaders are doing here are absolutely fantastic when it comes to gardens and greenscapes. We wanted to be a part of that. It has been a super partnership and you can see the result of that is the beautiful interchange that we have here now. It is a fantastic gateway to the city as people come downtown or to the zoo."
The day also included gardening activities at the zoo with children.
