COLUMBIA (WACH)-- South Carolina's top prosecutor is joining law enforcement, community leaders and local celebrities to raise awareness about sexual trauma.

Attorney General Alan Wilson will serve as marshal of the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event Thursday in Columbia.

Participants will meet at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center and walk from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Wilson and other area notables, including Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott and University of South Carolina President Harris Pastides, are planning to don women's shoes and walk for one mile. Others, including Lexington County Sheriff James Metts and Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott, are also planning to participate.

The event is sponsored by Palmetto Health and hosted by Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands.

Its intent is to get men involved in the fight against sexual violence.
