COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Ross Stores Inc. is planning to bring 600 jobs to York County with a new distribution and warehouse facility.

Officials said Wednesday the company planned to build a 1 million square-foot facility to use as a distribution center for retail stores in 30 states. Over five years, the company says the project will generate about 600 new jobs.

The Pleasanton, Calif.-based Ross has had facilities in York County for a decade and currently operates a warehouse and distribution center in Fort Mill. York County Council Chairman Britt Blackwell said the company currently employs more than 1,200 people in the area.
