FT. JACKSON, SC -- Fort Jackson hosted a distinguished guest Thursday morning.
Governor Nikki Haley was among thousands of proud family members and friends at the Fort's basic training graduation at Hilton Field.
Soldiers from five battalions graduated. Many were also honored for individual awards like fitness and shooting accuracy.
The Governor, who is a former army wife herself, said she knows the importance of supporting the men and women who choose to serve.
"This service that they are giving will make you strong too. You are now families of service. We are as proud of you as we are of them. They could not do what they do without your support. We are proud Army family members."
Afterward, the Governor spoke about leadership at the Association of U.S. Army's General Membership luncheon.
