SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say someone dug up a grave in Spartanburg and stole bones from inside a casket.

Police said a woman noticed the damage as she walked through Oakwood Cemetery on Monday. Part of a cinder block retaining wall was torn down and dirt was dug away. A section of the concrete vault was removed and the metal casket was pried open on one end. Investigators say the head of the person inside was removed,

The headstone on the grave was knocked over. The person in the grave died in 1967.

The cemetery is known on the Internet for people hearing voices or seeing strange things.

Police haven't made any arrests.
