NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- A judge has denied bond for a 19-year-old man accused of killing a pizza deliveryman in North Charleston.

Stephawn Brown apologized to the victim's family at Monday's hearing, but denied he killed 20-year-old Maraleius Birdsong as he delivered a pizza to an apartment complex.

Police say Birdsong was called to an apartment around 8 p.m. Friday, but the person at the home said they did not order anything.

Investigators say Birdsong was shot in the head as he walked back to his car.

Police say they traced the number used to buy the pizza to a cellphone Brown had when he was arrested.

Investigators say they found pizza in Brown's kitchen and in a dresser drawer in a bedroom of his apartment.
