Fort Jackson, S.C. (WACH) - Lt. Colonel Gregory Bauldrick is marching into the job force after a 23 year career in the US Army.

He was among hundreds of active duty and military retirees hunting for a new gig Tuesday at Fort Jackson’s "Hiring our Heroes" job fair.

Bauldrick's background is in human resources.

"I've worked in a number of different cultures, backgrounds and experiences,” said Bauldrick.  “I've got the leadership traits, the personality.  I understand the loyalty to the team, not just the individual."

There were 90 potential employers on hand offering Bauldrick and his fellow soldiers plenty of fields to choose from.

"They have outstanding skills, they're multi-taskers,” said Carolyn Andrews of the job seekers.

Andrews is with the Army Career Alumni program that helps soldiers who are preparing to leave the armed forces transition into the job world.

“We help them package that, and we stay engaged with employers to find out what their opportunities are and what their needs are."

Bauldrick visited with several employers, and picked up a few applications.

"I feel pretty confident, the opportunities and challenges presented to me in the army, I think it has prepared me for this transition and prepared me for this challenge that lies ahead."

Fort Jackson usually does two of these job fairs every year, but this was the biggest one so far. The event was organized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce.
