COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch effective until 4:15 pm for the following South Carolina counties:

Abbeville Aiken Bamberg,Barnwell Calhoun, Chester, Chesterfield, Clarendon, Edgefield, Fairfield,Greenwood, Kershaw, Lancaster, Laurends, Lee, Lexington, McCormick, Newberry, Orangeburg, Richland, Saluda, Sumter, and Union.

Alexis King with SkyWACH Weather says a tornado watch means conditions are right for the development of rotation. Please stay near an alert system, such as a NOAA weather radio, to be notified if the watch gets upgraded to a warning.

With this watch, expect high winds, heavy rain and the possibility of hail. This storm has seen potential for sever weather.

The National Weather Service Dopplar Radar has indicated tornadic rotation near Shoulder Bone, Ga., moving east at 40 mph. A tornado warning remains in effect for that area.
