COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A new study by researchers in South Carolina has found that the further young Mexican-Americans move away from the dietary habits of their native culture, the more weight they gain.

Researchers at the University of South Carolina's Arnold School of Public Health are scheduled to discuss their findings Wednesday on the campus in Columbia. Their research is published this month in the Journal of Nutrition.

Dr. Jihong Liu is lead researcher on the study and is discussing the finding that youngsters born into second and third-generation families are more likely to be obese than those not born in the United States.
