Columbia/Charleston, SC (WACH)- Authorities in Charleston and Richland County arrested a former Columbia resident after two sexual assault victims told deputies about the alleged assault.
The Richland County Sheriff's Department arrested of Philip Gerald Simoneaux, 65, on charges of sexual assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct, criminal sexual conduct with a minor.
Sheriff Leon Lott says on July 7, 2011 the Richland County Sheriff’s Department took a report from two sexual assault victims who reported a crime that took place years ago.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Department Fugitive Task Force in conjunction with the North Charleston Police Department arrested Simoneaux at his residence on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 after receiving information pertaining to his whereabouts by concerned citizens and transported to the Charleston County Detention Center.
Sheriff Leon Lott states that in 1985 on Flora Drive in Columbia the first victim (13 years of age at the time of incident) said that Simoneaux, while sitting next to her in a hammock sexually assaulted. The second victim (16 years of age at the time of incident) said that in 1989 while she was staying at Simoneaux’s residence on Craigwood Drive Blythewood, he gave her a drug and groped her.
Sheriff Leon Lott says Simoneaux was arrested and transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
