Here is your Good Day Columbia GDC Morning WACH for 2-16-12:
This morning, we had the pleasure of welcoming several guests.
May Q. Panic and Chuck Town Bruiser from the Columbia Quad Squad joined us to not talk about roller derby, but their very first Glitz Gala. They are collecting prom dresses, shoes, and accessories to give to those in need so they can also enjoy prom this year.
If that wasn’t a big enough undertaking, again this year, the team is taking part in a Saint Baldrick’s event. This year 12 people (10 of the girls from the team) have volunteered to shave their heads to raise money for cancer research. You can check out the team page at Saint Baldrick’s HERE.
If you would like more information on those programs, you can EMAIL them. If you have never seen a roller girl up close and personal, check out their appearance HERE.
We were also joined by LT. James Crawford and Lea Cooper from Carolina Ale House, who told us about the Lexington County Law Enforcement Officer’s Association chili cook off and car show that is planned for Sunday. The event, being held at the Harbison Carolina Ale House, starts at 1:00 pm Sunday afternoon. You can get more info HERE, and by pressing your enter button HERE, you can see the interview that aired on Good Day Columbia.
Wendy Brawley from IMARA magazine was our guest, in our continuing celebration of Black History Month, talking about a program to raise college money for students. You can learn more HERE.
George Head from the Lake Murray Symphony Orchestra shared information about the FREE, yes FREE concert on Sunday. The show, one of only 4 a year, is on Sunday at the Harbison Theater on the Midlands Technical College in Irmo, starting at 3:30 pm.
You can log on to www.LMSO.orgfor more information on the group and the event. If you want to let our fingers do the walking, 803-400-3540. Want to see George’s time on the couch? Check it out HERE.
As always, GDC is looking for your input! Please send story ideas, if you are in looking for exposure for a community event you are involved with, or would like a cast member to speak at your civic group, school, or activity, EMAIL us! We are part of the community!!
