COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley gave a progress report on the states economy Wednesday morning.

The governor was a keynote speaker at the Municipal Associations annual Legislative Action Day at the Marriott Hotel. The event hosted mayors and council members from all over the state.

Haley updated leaders on job growth in the Palmetto State; highlighted by last weeks announcement of Chinese based Au'some candy opening a plant in Sumter.

With more companies coming to South Carolina, she is also planning to work with technical schools to develop advanced training to assist job seekers in order to fill those jobs.

Haley wants to lure more companies by hoping to get rid of corporate income tax and lowering the manufacturing tax from 10.5% to 6%. She said it will also help small towns.

"You are not going to hear about the Boeings, BMW's, and Michelin's of the world complaining about manufacturing tax because they don't pay it. I'm talking about our little guys. If we give them that cash flow, they are going to hire more people. They are going to invest more in your towns. And they are going to expand their plants."

Haley also urged city leaders to work together in order to bring more jobs and improve infrastructure.
