CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- A man has been sentenced to a dozen years in prison after pleading guilty in the shooting death of a man in Charleston.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported  52-year-old Thompson White pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter Tuesday in the shooting death of 45-year-old Eugene Evans.

Prosecutors say White fired a rifle at Evans on Sept. 21, 2010, following an argument.

Attorneys say White and his girlfriend had quarreled and Evans and two other men arrived at White's home and attacked him.

Prosecutors say White went inside and came out with a .22-caliber rifle and fired four shots. One of the shots hit Evans in the face.

Defense attorney Andy Savage says White was trying to protect himself.
