COLUMBIA (WACH / AP)—The Chief of South Carolina’s state police is waiting for a vote on his future with the agency.
State Law Enforcement Division Chief Mark Keel took over the agency last summer when former U.S. Attorney Reggie Lloyd stepped down from the position, and on Tuesday, the Senate Judiciary Committee, plans to vote on giving him a full 4 year term.
Chief Keel is just the fourth chief at the agency, which was established in 1947. Keel served as the chief of staff and it was assumed that he would step into the head role when Robert Stewart retired, however, then Governor Mark Sanford selected Lloyd to lead the agency instead.
