Here is your Good Day Columbia GDC Morning WACH for 1-30-12:
A busy morning for the Crew, including our conversation of the day. On tap, the debate of Facebook’s removal of mothers breast feeding their children, and posting the pictures. Nurse-ins, as they are being called are being held all over the world to protest what they are calling censorship. You can read some of the stories HERE. Facebook says that they only remove pictures that have complaints against them, and in fact, specifically allow breast feeding pictures. We asked the question on our own Facebook page about the removal of the pictures, and you sounded off. Join the conversation HERE.
On the guest list, were Mary Katherine Hall and Isabella Columbo, both seniors at Carndal Newman. The school is joining forces with USC in a dance marathon to raise money for the Children’s Hospital. You can get more information on how you can help the students raise money HERE, and see the ladies appearance on the show HERE.
The student-led event will last from 6:00 p.m. until midnight in the gymnasium. Students will dance, play games, make crafts, and learn a five to six minute line dance that will be performed at the closing ceremony. They will also hear stories from Miracle Families whose children have been treated at the hospital. Students secured sponsors, visited local, catholic churches and hosted a spaghetti dinner to raise funds. Their goal is $10,000.
McKenzie Taylor and Ann Ackerman joined us on the show to talk about the Wine, Dine, and Design fashion show planned for March 26. The event, to be hold at the convention center will include special guest and celebrity fashion designer Cojo. The event is sponsored by the Kenneth Shuler School, and is partnering with the Walker Foundation to raise money for the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind. You can learn more by spending a few minutes watching their appearance on the show, HERE.
Lori Cook from the Richland County Public Library appeared on the show in the weekly Back to Work segment. The exciting news Lori had was about jobs in education! They are there! You can check out the opportunities at the Job Center website HERE, and watch her time on the show HERE.
We told you the story of a snow boarder who had her life quite possibly saved by an airbag. It was quite a story. Check it out HERE, and of course, if you feel you need your very own airbag, HERE you go.
Eleven year-old Chalmers Allen talked about giving, or paying it forward, more specifically. He was given $100.00, and turned it into $50K to help save a teacher's salary for two years. Seriously! Read about him HERE, and meet him HERE.
As always, GDC is looking for your input! Please send story ideas, if you are in looking for exposure for a community event you are involved with, or would like a cast member to speak at your civic group, school, or activity, EMAIL us! We are part of the community!!
