LIBERTY, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say a 7-year-old girl riding a scooter has been struck and killed by a car in Liberty.

Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley said Emma Boughman was crossing the street around 4:30 p.m. Thursday when she was hit. She died a short time later at the hospital.

The Highway Patrol is reconstructing the wreck. No charges have been filed.

Pickens County School District officials say extra counselors were sent Friday to Chastain Road Elementary School, where the girl was a student.
