Here is your GDC Morning WACH for 1-30-12:

We had lots going on this Tuesday and final day of January.  We had for you a bit of an emotional roller coaster when it comes to the economy, with foreclosures and gas prices up, unemployment is down, and incomes are also on the rise.

Should you want to do your own research on how we fare in the Palmetto State in regards to foreclosures, you can check out the foreclosure finder HERE, and some by the numbers information HERE.  The good stuff, ie unemployment, which continues to fall, is a mixed bag, with even the highest levels in the state on the way down.  You can see how the Midlands stack up right HERE.

Curious about our guest list?  So glad you asked…we had several this morning, including Jamie Muldrow from the American Red Cross, with information about the second annual Lifesaver Blood Drive, 7am-6pm on Thursday.  You can see her time on the show HERE. 

In our weekly Back To Work segment, speaking of unemployment, or rather employment with employment expert Lori Cook, we learned several interesting facts about fining employment, including some stats from the US Department of Labor:

• 80 % of available jobs are never advertised
• Over 50% of employees find employment through networking
• 28.5% get their jobs through employee referrals
• 96% of job seekers apply to job postings on the Internet
• 2.8% find jobs through the large Internet job sites

Interesting stuff, for sure, especially the number about the Internet job sites.  Lori also told us about a large job classification that is hiring: Manufacturing.  You can check out her time on the show HERE. 

Also from the Richland County Public Library, Valerie Jackson us to talk about Black History Month.  Check out her interview HERE. 

Sammy Lopez and Robert LeHeup were guests on the show to help spread the word about the Bullets and Bandaids art show at 701 Whaley St. Tuesday night.  The show is planned to help raise much needed funds and awareness about Hidden Wounds, a program started here in the Midlands to help provide resources for soldiers who return home and suffer from ailments such as PTSD.  The event starts at 6pm, and for information, you can email RLeHeup@yahoo.com.  You can also see the Facebook posting of the event HERE.
