COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH/AP) -- Want to get a giraffe's eye view of the trees above?
The Riverbanks Zoo and Gardens is opening a ropes challenge course in Columbia on Monday.
The Sky-High Safari is a three-story, 44-foot-tall ropes course where climbers can navigate 30 balance-testing obstacles including rope ladders, bridges and nets.
“The ropes course not only adds a new level of family fun to the Riverbanks experience, it’s also a great teaching tool for our guests,” said Tommy Stringfellow, chief operating officer at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. “By stepping up to the Sky-High Safari challenge, participants are given an opportunity to test their strength and face their fears. It’s also a great team-building exercise for groups and organizations.”
The ropes course is designed to accommodate multiple climbers at one time. All climbers wear a full-body harness and are hooked to an overhand tracking system. Children must be 48 inches tall to participate without parent supervision.
Sky-High Safari is located near Riverbanks’ African Savanna exhibit—across from Giraffe Overlook. The course will be open daily from 10am-4pm beginning Monday, January 30.
The cost to climb is $5 for Individual and Family-level members, $3 for Explorer, Patron and Gold-level members, and $7 for the general public—with paid regular admission to Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. For more information, visit www.riverbanks.org.
