COLUMBIA (WACH) - Columbia Police say 21-year-old Tanner Lovick, a shortstop for the Gamecocks baseball team, was arrested Saturday night in Five Points.

Department spokesperson Jennifer Timmons say he was taken into custody while leaving the Village Idiot at about 1 a.m. Timmons says as Lovick was leaving the bar, he bumped into two officers on scene.

She says the officers reported Lovick was intoxicated and had slurred speech. He is charged with drunkenness. According to The Big Spur, a sports website which covers the Gamecocks, Coach Ray Tanner has suspended Lovick indefinitely.
