(AP) -- CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich says Republicans will err if they don't scrutinize Mitt Romney's role in a private equity firm called Bain Capital.

The former House speaker said Saturday that President Barack Obama will hammer at Bain if Romney is the nominee this fall.

Gingrich and four other candidates spoke at a Fox News forum in South Carolina.

Romney said he wants the federal government out of the housing business so the free market can work.

Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman said abortions should be legal in cases of rape and incest. Former Sen. Rick Santorum said they should not.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry touted his call for a 20 percent flat tax.
