(ORANGEBURG, SC (WACH) – The Orangeburg County Sheriff says a Cordova man has been arrested in the Thursday night shooting of his sister.

Orangeburg County Sheriff  Leroy Ravenell said, “Officers were called to the Regional Medical Center at 11:40 p.m. after a Cordova woman arrived suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim did not survive. Akim Jamal Bartley was arrested after being interviewed by Investigators.”

Bartley  made statements that he attempted to break up an argument inside their home between his sister and her boyfriend twice. When they continued to argue, Bartley went to retrieve a weapon. Bartley followed the boyfriend outside the house with the handgun, pointing it at the boyfriend. As his sister was exiting the house, Bartley turned in her direction and the firearm discharged.
