AIKEN (WACH / AP)—Law enforcement officers from across the state of South Carolina and Georgia joined hundreds of mourners honoring Master Patrol Officer Scotty Richardson, who was killed on December 20 during a traffic stop.
The funeral began at noon at the University of South Carolina Aiken Convocation Center. People lined the streets of Aiken and waved flags, as the funeral procession passed, traveling to the Bethany Cemetery, where Officer Richardson was laid to rest.
According to the Aiken Standard, there have been several questions about fund raising for the needs of the family. The Richardson family has asked that any donations be made to the Edward Scott Richardson Children’s fund, Savannah River Banking Co., 407 Silver Bluff Road SW, Aiken, SC 29803.
Officer Richardson was shot in the head on December 20 during a traffic stop, and was pronounced dead at the hospital. A second officer was also shot in the incident; however, his bulletproof vest is credited with saving his life.
The suspect in the case, 19 year old Stephon Carter has been charged with murder and attempted murd
er in the case. Carter is also recovering from a gunshot wound he sustained in the shootout which claimed the life of Officer Richardson.A candlelight vigil was held Monday night on the front lawn of the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
