COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A second man has been charged in the robbery that led to the death of a Richland County Sheriff's Department's dog shot in the line of duty.

Twenty-three-year-old Pierre Antwaine Goodson surrendered to officers Tuesday. Deputies say he exchanged text messages with the man accused of shooting the dog, Maurice Antwon McCreary, who was arrested last week.

The sheriff's department was holding a memorial service for Fargo on Thursday.

Sheriff Leon Lott says Fargo joined the force in 2006.

Lott says Fargo's death has prompted an outpouring of calls from citizens seeking to donate funds and provide armored vests for dogs in the K9 unit.
