COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) -- Richland County Sheriff's Department is making sure your home is safe for the holidays.
They offer property checks, free of charge for those who are heading out of town and worried about leaving their houses empty.
They will come to your property twice a day to check windows, doors, and make sure everything overall looks secure.
"We use it all the time, everytime we go out of town 2, 3 days in advance we call the Sheriffs Department," said homeowner Robert O'Brien.
RCSD will check your property as long as you give them 2 days notice and fill out an on-line form.
The form is for imformation about your property, letting them know what to expect when they check your home.
They need to know if there are others looking after your property, if you have any pets, and also if you have an alarm system.
"It is one of the best kept secrets in the county, knowing that you're going to leave, and have peace of mind, and your valuables will be there when you get home," said O'Brien.
